I think by this point all of you know that we are going to Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico as short-term missionaries this summer. We are so excited about this. We just can not wait. My sister and her family live there. We visited them last summer for vacation. While we were there Nathan did some small jobs and from that point on they have been asking us to consider coming for an extended stay this summer. There are so many jobs to do, and there aren’t enough hands to go around with the current missionaries.
We will be leaving June 17th, and will return somewhere near July 20th which will give us a full month there and time to get some of the most pressing jobs done. At this point we are planning to take Nathan’s work truck for the convenience of having space for the tools we will need. If we don’t reach our budget then we plan to take a smaller vehicle to cut down on gas money. We are not going with a team - it will be just our family. We are Bible Methodist Missionaries and we will be raising all our own funds.
We ask that you would all support us with your prayers. All of us are aware of the current dangers in Mexico, but I fully trust that God will take care of us. He wouldn’t place this call on our lives and then leave us to take care of ourselves. Again, though - we really need your thoughts and prayers. I know so many of you that have already told me you will be praying. We are so thankful for your prayers. If any of you feel you would be able to support us financially, we would certainly appreciate that as well.
If you would like to have a copy of one of our prayer cards, please email me and let me know. This is a full family adventure for us. Our family was so moved by the way people live there where we visited last year. We love the fact that our kids got to see how fortunate we really are. They now have a good idea of what “need vs. want” really is.
We will be staying in what is called the “guest house”. It is beside the Bible Methodist church there in Saltillo. We can’t wait for the heat when we get there. Ohio is never quite hot enough for us. Of course, having said all of that, the house where we will be staying will reach nearly 100 degrees inside at times. 8-) I’m not complaining at all about that though - I can’t wait to be warm for a month!!! Nathan will be the Summer Maintenance Director there and will be extremely busy with different tasks. His job list is a mile long. As a side note here; Nathan spent many years of his childhood in Spanish speaking countries since his parents were missionaries. He is very familiar with the culture and language.
If you have any questions about our trip, please email anytime.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for being involved in our lives. We are so blessed with so many great friends. We love you all.
